It is interesting that electricity rate hikes are being blamed, somehow, on solar energy. This can only be the result of serious mismanagement on the part of the regulators and the utilities. Any Google search will turn up very many respected, authoritative, scientifically based sources attesting that solar energy is now the cheapest source of energy on the planet.
Common sense also suggests that this is correct. The pricing of electricity is a tangle of complexities that are opaque to the average consumer. This creates openings for purposeful lies concerning energy. A bit over a year ago, the website of The Maine Energy Marketers Association still proclaimed in boldface type “heat pumps are simply not ideal for climates like Maine.” Consider the source.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
For those stories that we do enable discussion, our system may hold up comments pending the approval of a moderator for several reasons, including possible violation of our guidelines. As the Maine Trust’s digital team reviews these comments, we ask for patience.
Comments are managed by our staff during regular business hours Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. Comments held for moderation outside of those hours may take longer to approve.
