Several thousand power outages were reported across Maine on Sunday evening after severe thunderstorms hit parts of the state.
About 2,800 Central Maine Power customers were without power, mostly in Androscoggin and Oxford counties, as of about 10 p.m. Sunday. Earlier in the evening, nearly 9,000 CMP customers had lost power.
Elsewhere, about 5,000 Versant Power customers, mostly in Penobscot County, lost power during the storms. Only a few outages remained late Sunday.
Most of Maine was under a storm advisory for part of Sunday afternoon.
The National Weather Service’s advisories were more serious in Androscoggin and Oxford counties, where a severe thunderstorm warning was in place.
A less-serious thunderstorm watch was in place for most other Maine counties, including York and Cumberland.
