Kyle Datres hit a first-inning grand slam as the Hartford Yard Goats topped the Portland Sea Dogs 8-2 Wednesday night in an Eastern League game at Hartford, Connecticut.
Sea Dogs starter Juan Daniel Encarnacion (0-4) allowed three singles in the first inning and then hit Zach Kokoska with the bases loaded. Datres then followed with his third homer to left-center field. Encarnacion pitched four innings, allowing seven hits and six run. He walked none and struck out two.
Hartford added single runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings. Kokoksa had an RBI single in the third.
Yanquiel Fernandez and Warming Bernabel each had three hits for Hartford.
Alex Binelas homered for Portland in the seventh inning. Kristian Campbell scored on a balk in the eighth inning for Portland.
