Two Maine women – Clara Brown of Falmouth and Freeport native Skyler Samuelson Espinoza – have been named to the 2024 United States Paralympic Games team for cycling.

Brown will make her second trip to the Games. Espinoza was selected for the first time.

Brown, 28, was entered in four events in Tokyo in 2021, placing fourth, fifth and sixth with one withdrawal. Brown has won road and track world championships, competing in the WC3 class, indicating lower and/or upper body limitations but the use of a regular bicycle. Brown’s selection was announced Monday by U.S. Paralympics Cycling when the 13-person (six women, seven men) team was named.

Espinoza, 30, is the pilot, or guide, for visually impaired teammate Hannah Chadwick in the tandem duo category. Espinoza and Chadwick, who placed third in the track sprint at the 2023 World Championships and won Parapan gold this past winter, were added to the team on Thursday when the International Paralympic Committee granted the U.S. two additional cycling spots.

Espinoza attended Maine Coast Waldorf school prior to doing her undergraduate studies at Barnard, where she joined the Columbia rowing team. She also was a rower while a grad student at Stanford, then was an assistant rowing coach for the Cardinal. She lives in Menlo Park, California.

The 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris run from Aug. 28-Sept. 8.
