Police arrested an Auburn man Saturday afternoon who allegedly caused between $80,000 and $90,000 in damage to 75 vehicles at a local car dealership.
Skyler Henson, 25, was arrested and charged with aggravated criminal mischief and transported to Androscoggin County Jail. He is being held on $5,000 cash bail.
Auburn police Deputy Chief Tim Cougle said in a news release that the caller who reported the crime advised officers he would prefer to speak to them in person and that “the sooner police arrived, the less damage there would be.”
Dispatchers could hear “smashing” sounds in the background of the call, Cougle said.
The first officer on the scene saw Henson swinging a weighted backpack at the windows and hoods of several vehicles in the parking lot at the Rowe car dealership lots. Henson was immediately detained, Cougle said.
Most of the damage to the vehicles were to front windshields, with some vehicles sustaining body damage only.
