Mauricio Sunderland rushed for three touchdowns, and Thornton Academy dominated the final three quarters in a 54-14 Class A football victory Saturday at Windham.
Thornton (2-1) led 12-7 after one quarter, on touchdown runs by Wyatt Benoit and Jackson Paradis.
A failed fake punt by Windham (0-3) early in the second quarter helped the Trojans take control. On the next play, Nate Neely got behind Windham’s defense and hauled in a deep pass from Benoit for a 48-yard touchdown. Benoit’s conversion pass to Paradis gave the Trojans a 20-7 lead.
Sunderland made it 27-7 with a 1-yard run.
Two plays into the second half, Brennan Tabor picked off a Windham pass and returned it 29 yards for a touchdown. Sunderland then scored on runs of 7 and 4 yards to extend the lead to 48-7 after three quarters.
Alex Roenisch added a 4-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter.
Windham’s touchdowns were a 7-yard run by Parker Sperry in the first quarter and an 83-yard kickoff return by Jordan Pastore in the fourth.
BOYS’ SOCCER
DEERING 3, WESTBROOK 2: Guilerme Francisco Jose redirected a cross from the right corner by Augusto Daniel for the tiebreaking goal with 4:35 remaining as the Rams (2-3-1) defeated the Blue Blazes (2-2) in Westbrook.
Daniel opened the scoring about 10 minutes into the game when his 20-yard strike got past Westbrook keeper Jason McCarthy, who finished with six saves, including leaping stop on a hard strike in the first half.
Peter Sargent made it 2-0 on a 30-yard floater that sailed under the crossbar in the 17th minute.
Westbrook cut the lead with 12:18 left in the half when Paddy Walsh tapped in a headed pass from Hussam Ibrahim following a serve into the box by Justin Filatrault. The Blue Blazes tied it 35 seconds into the second half when Ithiel Mulumba finished a long serve over the back line by Walsh.
Jack Borland stopped four shots for the Rams.
KENNEBUNK 1, MARSHWOOD 0: Ben Urban sent a 30-yard shot into the top left corner 13 minutes into the second half, lifting the Rams (3-2-1) over the Hawks (3-2) in Kennebunk.
Caleb Auriemma made three saves for the shutout. Marshwood’s Orrin Culp Dechant stopped five shots.
WINDHAM 7, THORNTON ACADEMY 0: Sam Rogers produced two goals and two assists, and Dylan Crockett and Camden Patin also scored twice (5-0) to lead the Eagles past the Golden Trojans (1-3-1) in Windham.
Luke Cuniffe was the other goal scorer.
WAYNFLETE 1, NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 0: Lucas Plumb converted a penalty kick with 10 minutes left in the first half, helping the visiting Flyers (1-3) earn their first win of the season.
Waynflete got three saves from Lila Fremont. Gavin Thomas of NYA (3-1-1) stopped six shots.
CAMDEN HILLS 5, MT. BLUE 1: Colby Pierce scored twice as the Windjammers (5-0-1) earned a win over the Cougars (2-3) in Farmington.
Mac Pierce, Soren Johnson and Kylian Babik each added a goal.
August Garcia scored for Mt. Blue.
YARMOUTH 4, WELLS 0: Luis Cardoso scored twice as the Clippers (4-0-2) struck for four goals during an eight-minute span of the first half against the Warriors (1-5) in Yarmouth.
Zacarias Binda got the first goal, nine minutes in, Cardoso added two over the next 2½ minutes, and Mateo Coury capped the outburst.
Will Raymond and Julian Gebhardt split goaltending duties for Yarmouth and faced only one shot on net. Josiah Leighton made seven saves for Wells.
FALMOUTH 3, SCARBOROUGH 2: Simon Wissink scored in the first half, and Evan Mayo and Sam Yoon added second-half goals as the Navigators (4-1) edged the Red Storm (4-1) in Falmouth.
Denver Bachman and Khalil Ghosheh scored for Scarborough.
Scarborough’s Ryan Shugars and Falmouth’s Caden Berry each made three saves.
BIDDEFORD 7, MASSABESIC 2: Saion Rankin scored three goals to lead the Tigers (4-1) over the Mustangs (0-6) in Biddeford.
Consolation Sumbu, Zeus Rankin, Presence Tshiamala and Ghanisthan Alexandre Keto chipped in with a goal apiece.
Shamus Dobbins and Gabe Lawrence scored for Massabesic.
GREELY 3, YORK 0: Owen Piesik converted a Connor Skillin pass just 18 seconds into the game, starting the Rangers (5-0-1) on their way to a win over the Wildcats in Cumberland.
Piesik finished with two goals, Skillin also scored, and Owen Partridge had two assists.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 3, WAYNFLETE 0: Delphine Daniel’s goal on a penalty kick broke a scoreless tie five minutes into the second half and North Yarmouth Academy went on to a 3-0 win at Waynflete.
The Panthers (6-0) put it away later in the half, as Natasha Godfrey scored on a rebound of a shot from Lyla Casey and Ella Giguere buried a free kick. Sadie Morgan made four saves.
Rachel Yordon stopped five shots for the Flyers (1-2-1).
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 0, LAKE REGION 0: Haley Carson made 12 saves for Gray-New Gloucester (2-2-1) and Jordan Blanton stopped eight shots for Lake Region (1-5-1) in a scoreless tie in Naples.
MT. ARARAT 11, MESSALONSKEE 0: Julianna Allen scored four goals, and seven others scored once as Mt. Ararat (5-0) rolled to a win at Messalonskee (1-4-1).
Islah Godo, Katherine Therriault, Elena Willis, Emma Berry, Cece Minet joined Allen with first-half goals. Allen added three goals in the opening five minutes of the second half. Cali Pomerleau and Izzy O’Banyel also scored.
FREEPORT 2, TRAIP ACADEMY 0: Abby Giroux converted a penalty kick in the first half, Braelynn Coons put in a cross from Lucy Riggs in the second, and the Falcons (3-1-1) shut out the Rangers (2-3) in Freeport.
Karleigh Costello made four saves and Nora Eames stopped three shots for Freeport. Lily Stuart had 21 saves for Traip.
GREELY 3, YORK 1: Avery Bush produced two goals and Lily Pierce also scored for the Rangers (4-0-2) against the Wildcats (2-3) in York.
FIELD HOCKEY
BIDDEFORD 11, NOBLE 0: Mia Mariello notched three goals and two assists, Ayla Lagasse added two goals and four assists, and the Tigers (4-1) routed the Knights (2-2) in Biddeford.
Lola Laverierre and Corinne Ramunno each finished with two goals, Hannah Loranger had a goal and three assists, and Kayla Magnant also scored.
Lauren Merchant made 11 saves for Noble.
BRUNSWICK 4, BANGOR 0: Darby Brown, Paige Botts and Ellie Meserve each had a goal and an assist as the Dragons (1-3-1) handled the Rams (0-5) in Bangor.
Quinn McCormack also scored, Ava Wolverton had an assist, and Ella Duchette made four saves for Brunswick.
Bangor’s Kya Smith turned aside eight shots.
VOLLEYBALL
CAMDEN HILLS 3, NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 1: Eleanor Zuiches had eight aces, seven digs and two kills for the Panthers (0-4) in a four-set loss to the Windjammers (1-3) in Yarmouth, 25-15, 25-22, 21-25 and 25-22.
Chloe Shervanick added nine digs and four aces, and Joyce Abahari had four kills for NYA.
YARMOUTH 3, CAPE ELIZABETH 2: Ella Cameron recorded 21 kills, Alyssa Rousseau had 31 digs, and Norah Lushman finished with five aces as the Clippers (5-1) defeated the visiting Capers (3-2) in five sets, 25-17, 20-25, 26-24, 16-25, 15-8.
FRIDAY’S BOYS’ SOCCER
GORHAM 2, PORTLAND 1: Owen Spera scored with an assist from Zach Chandler, and the Rams (4-2) benefited from an own goal after a Riley Dever free kick as they upended Bulldogs (5-1) in Gorham.
David Mawangu scored and Loic Ramanzani was credited with an assist for Portland.
