Arts and cultural organization Portland Ovations is kicking off its 94th season with a free concert at 2 p.m. Saturday in Portland’s Congress Square Park.
The Gather Hear Portland show, featuring pianist Miki Sawada, is designed to both celebrate and reimagine Portland Ovations’ long history with world-class classical and chamber music.
Gather Hear is the name of Sawada’s tour. She’s traveling with her piano in a van and stopping in all 50 states to perform in community gathering spaces. Her mission is to connect people across socioeconomic and political boundaries through music and to foster human connection and dialogue with music as the catalyst.
Sawada’s Portland show includes musicians from Listen Up! Music, a nonprofit day program and music studio that works with musicians with intellectual disabilities.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
For those stories that we do enable discussion, our system may hold up comments pending the approval of a moderator for several reasons, including possible violation of our guidelines. As the Maine Trust’s digital team reviews these comments, we ask for patience.
Comments are managed by our staff during regular business hours Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. Comments held for moderation outside of those hours may take longer to approve.
