The fall sports season keeps steaming along with Scarborough squads emerging victorious more often than not.

It may seem hard to believe, but we’re already nearing the midway point of the regular season and the action is just heating up.

Here’s a look back at the week that was and a glimpse at what’s to come.

Girls’ soccer

Scarborough’s two-time reigning Class A state champion girls’ soccer team extended its two-year unbeaten streak to 19 games Tuesday with a 7-0 home win over Portland. Maya Taylor had two goals and a pair of assists, while Maggie Booth, Shay Charsky, Delia Fravert, Paige Garlock and Ava Page scored once apiece.

The Red Storm (4-0-1) hosted Thornton Academy, the last team to beat them, Thursday (see our website for game story), then welcome Sanford Saturday before going to Cheverus for a showdown Tuesday of next week.

Boys’ soccer

On the boys’ side, the Red Storm suffered their first loss and fell to 4-1 after a 3-2 setback at Falmouth last Saturday night. Scarborough got goals from Denver Bachman and Khalil Ghosheh and goalkeeper Ryan Shugars made three saves.

The Red Storm returned to action Wednesday at home versus Sanford. Scarborough plays host to Portland Saturday (see our website for game story) and welcomes Windham Tuesday of next week.

Football

Scarborough’s football team fell to 1-2 on the year after losing at home to Noble last Friday, 38-0. The game was scoreless after one quarter, but the Knights scored 17 points in the second period, then added 14 in the third before putting it away with one more touchdown in the fourth.

The Red Storm travel to 0-3 Oxford Hills Saturday. Last year, Scarborough lost at the Vikings, 39-0.

Scarborough’s field hockey team lost at home to Biddeford (7-0), then improved to 3-2 by beating host Bonny Eagle (3-0) and Noble (1-0) to improve to 3-2. Against the Tigers, the Red Storm hung tough for most of three quarters, trailing only by two. Biddeford then got a goal late in the third period and scored four more times to pull away. Goalie Avery Ingersoll made 11 saves.

“We were only down 2-0 in the third quarter and all of a sudden, it became seven,” first-year coach Kyla Wigant lamented. “We have the skills. We just need confidence. The first three quarters, it was a great game.”

Scarborough hosted Massabesic Thursday, goes to Windham Monday and welcomes South Portland/Westbrook Wednesday of next week.

“I think we’re making strides,” Wigant said. “Our defense just needs to get stronger. We can turn it around. We have a lot of things to work on. We have some games coming up that I think we can learn from. It’s still early in the season.”

Volleyball

The Red Storm hosted Cheverus Thursday and go to Falmouth Tuesday of next week.

Cross country

Scarborough joined Bonny Eagle and and Westbrook for a cross country meet at Marshwood last week. The Red Storm boys came in first, as Ethan Keller had the top individual time (17 minutes, 28.8 seconds). Scarborough’s girls edged the host Hawks by a point to come in first. Laurel Driscoll (20:11.0) was the top individual finisher.

The Red Storm went to Noble Wednesday.

Golf

Scarborough’s golf team was 5-0 heading into Wednesday’s home match versus Cheverus. After going to South Portland Thursday, the Red Storm visit Deering Tuesday of next week.
