We all want our elected officials to exercise wisdom and courage in doing their job.
On Sept. 17, the Press Herald published a letter from Jill Miller (“Troubling doublespeak from Sen. Collins“) commenting on Sen. Collins’ response when asked who she would endorse for president. Collins’ answer: “While I have indicated that I will not be voting for either major party candidate this year, I do not base my support or opposition of a president’s priorities on whether or not I supported their campaign.”
One way to describe the job of our elected officials might be: (a) have clear priorities and think hard about them; (b) decide what to do; and (c) explain their decision. Sen. Collins seems afraid to say why she won’t vote for Trump.
“Shrewd and gutless” aren’t the same as “wise and courageous.”
