A Biddeford man was killed in a homicide Friday night, according to Maine State Police.
Police responded to Foss Street just before 11 p.m. Friday after receiving reports of gunshots. They found an injured man who later died at the scene, state police spokesperson Shannon Moss said.
The man was identified as Gene Dares, 46, of Biddeford. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner determined his cause of death as gunshot wounds and ruled it a homicide, Moss said.
Biddeford police and state police are investigating the homicide but believe there is no threat to the public. No additional information was released Sunday.

We believe it’s important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It’s a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
