An Acton man was arrested Monday night after allegedly shooting at a car that was being chased by police.

York County Sheriff Bill King said the 55-year-old man was among a group of people who came out of their houses and tried to form a roadblock to assist police from Milton, New Hampshire, who were chasing a car that fled across the state border into Acton.

By the time the car got to Acton around 9:15 p.m., the tires were deflated from going over a spike mat in New Hampshire. The slow-speed pursuit continued to Foxes Ridge Road, where residents came outside.

One resident was armed with a shotgun that he fired at the suspect’s vehicle, King said. A bullet struck the car’s trunk lid.

The man who fired the shot was charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and taken to York County Jail, where he posted $2,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court in November.
