As an educator, I’ve had lots of exposure to the theory-practice gap. This expression is shorthand for noting that translating ideas into actions is usually much more complicated than first appears. For example, our current City Council seems largely focused on ideas without grasping realistic implications of turning concepts into policies and practices.
The main reason I am ranking Nancy English No. 1 for the District 2 council seat is that she gets the theory-practice gap. As a longtime city paralegal, Nancy understands how Portland’s government works. She’s well-positioned to spot disparities between ideas and actions. She also has experience as a property owner and parent, a calm presence and grounding in the principle of treating others as she would want them to treat her.
I encourage District 2 residents to make Nancy English their first choice on the ballot.
