A man drove a car over the seawall and into the ocean at Middle Beach in Kennebunk this week, but the driver sustained only minor injuries and may have been pulled from the vehicle by a Good Samaritan, officials said.

The driver, the car’s sole occupant, was transported to the hospital by Kennebunk Fire and Rescue, the department said in a statement Wednesday.

The department said it considered the outcome of the crash Tuesday night to be “extremely lucky.”

“A Good Samaritan may have pulled the driver out of the vehicle,” the department said.

Photos posted on the department’s social media showed a blue car with a smashed windshield and partially caved-in roof.

A truck from Sanford-based Chandler’s Automotive and Towing pulled the car from the water but had to wait until the tide lowered, the department said.
