It was a monster mash at the State Theatre on Saturday night as partygoers hit the dance floor at EqualityMaine’s annual Great Pumpkin Ball.

The hallo-weekend dance party ran from 6 p.m. through midnight and featured drag performances and a costume contest.

With proceeds benefiting the local LGBTQ+ community, this year’s ball featured a lineup of Maine entertainers. The night kicked off with performances from local drag groups including Golden Goddess Productions, Curbside Queens, Big Kings and Kings of the Hill.

Local DJs were also well-represented, with Ben Spalding and Keith James providing the soundtrack to the night.

The highly anticipated costume contest had participants showing up in their most-intricate outfits. Prizes for the spookiest looks included gift cards to Portland businesses like Print: A Bookstore, coupons for massages, reiki and tarot readings and tickets to the Portland Symphony and Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens.
