St. Luke’s Cathedral in Portland is presenting a pair of performances of Gabriel Fauré’s “Requiem” on Sunday – one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
The shows fall on the day before the 100-year anniversary of the composer’s death. Fauré was born on May 12, 1845, and is revered as a major part of France’s Belle Époque (Beautiful Era) of 1871 to 1914.
The chamber choir and orchestra at St. Luke’s will perform the chamber-orchestra version of “Requiem,” featuring Erin Chenard (soprano) and John Adams (bass) with vocal solos.
Christian Clough, who has been music director at St. Luke’s for two years, said this is the first major event of his tenure. “It is our hope that we can extend our welcome more broadly to the people of the Greater Portland area and raise our profile as a community of caring and service, and a beautiful, acoustically friendly venue for engaging cultural programming.”
Head to the Cathedral of St. Luke on 143 State St. in Portland at 10 a.m. or 3 p.m. on Sunday. Find additional details at stlukesportland.org/events.
