A judge denied bail for the man charged with murder in a late July shooting in Morrill’s Corner that left one woman dead and may have been related to rival motorcycle clubs.

Aaron Karp, 47, made his first appearance in Cumberland County Superior Court in August and had a bail hearing in September. At that hearing, friends and family members described Karp as a loving son and provider, and they pleaded for him to be released on bail.

But Karp was denied bail by a Superior Court judge, according a Harnish order dated Oct. 21.

At Karp’s initial hearing, prosecutors said Karp shot 54-year-old Susan McHugh, who later died of her injuries, during a confrontation between a pair of rival motorcycle gangs.

“This court concludes there is adequate circumstantial evidence to establish probable cause that Mr. Karp intentionally and knowingly caused the death of Susan McHugh by pointing a gun at her and firing multiple times,” the judge said in the order. “The court cannot conclude that there is no risk to the public or other individuals if Mr. Karp were to be released on bail.”
