Rainelle West
Rainelle “Rainy” Mitchell West, 75 years, a resident of Delray Beach, Florida, and formerly of Arundel, passed away peacefully on Oct. 26, 2024.
Rainy was born in Bar Harbor and raised in Rockland and Pittsfield, Maine. She attended Central Maine Institute. She was married to George “Scotty” West in 1968, and together they owned a variety of local businesses, including Christopher’s clothing store, The Arundel Muffin, West Oil, Rainbow Market, The Blue Moon Diner and High Street Market.
Rainy’s sense of humor and the way that she easily connected with both employees and customers, was immediately apparent. Rainy might best be remembered for Dragonfly Farm, in Arundel, where each summer, many would come for the tradition of picking their own blueberries. She and Scotty were avid art collectors and both developed their own artistic creativity, later in life.
Rainy was predeceased by her husband Scotty, a brother Gerald Mitchell Jr., a sister Theresa Kirk, and her parents, Helen Gilley and Gerald Mitchell Sr. She is survived by her brother Dennis Mitchell of New Hampshire, sisters Virginia McNamara of Florida, and Julee Meltzer (Jack) of Arizona. Also survived by her son Christopher West (Jennifer) of Maine, daughter October Labbe (David) of South Carolina, son George “Rob” West of Maine and son Joshua West (Stacy) of Maine.
Rainy had eight grandchildren, Megan (Ben), Grace, Victoria, Mitchell, Alexis (Donald), George “Michael,” Peyton and Austin, and a great-granddaughter Saylor, all of whom she absolutely adored. Nieces and nephews Derek, Darcie, Jennifer, Jessica, Nicole, Jed, Carla, Elliott, Kasey and Rosalita.
An opportunity to celebrate Rainy will be scheduled at a later date. In remembrance of Rainy, make a favorite blueberry treat, enjoy good food and spend time with those you love.
