Three people were ejected from a horse-drawn buggy after it was struck by an SUV in Bradford on Friday morning, police said.

The buggy passengers were transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, as was the driver of the vehicle that hit them, Kendra Page, 28, of Bradford, Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a Friday evening statement.

Bradford is a small town about 25 miles northwest of Bangor in Penobscot County.

The horse sustained life-threatening injuries and was euthanized, Moss said.

The crash remains under investigation, but initial reports indicate that Page was traveling south behind the buggy and attempted to pass. But another vehicle was heading north as she attempted to pass, so Page attempted to thread her car between the buggy and the oncoming vehicle.

“Page didn’t have enough room and struck the buggy from behind,” Moss said.

Moss did not identify those in the buggy but said they were all from Bradford. She added that the other car was not impacted by the crash.
