Veterans Day is Monday. Here are events happening in the area to commemorate it:
BIDDEFORD-SACO
9:55 a.m. Monday. Opening ceremony on Main Street in Saco (in front of City Hall). Parade proceeds along Main Street and down York Hill into Biddeford, where it continues along Main Street, turns left onto Alfred Street and concludes in Veterans Memorial Park at the corner of Alfred and Pool Streets. The closing ceremony will occur at the park at approximately 10:45 a.m.
BRUNSWICK
10 a.m. Saturday. Veterans Plaza, 155 Maine St. Service led by W. David Watson, Post 20 Commander, George. T. Files Brunswick American Legion.
11 a.m. Monday. Wreath ceremony at “The Rock” at Brunswick High School, 71 Dragon Drive.
FALMOUTH
11 a.m. Monday. Ceremony at the Falmouth Veterans Memorial at 65 Depot Road. Following the ceremony, the Falmouth Lions Club will provide a luncheon at the Falmouth Legion Post for veterans, their families and everyone who would like to show appreciation for veterans.
NORTH YARMOUTH
11:30 a.m. Monday. The North Yarmouth Veterans Memorial Park Association will host a free lunch for veterans at Toddy Brook Cafe at 925 Sligo Road.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH
11 a.m. Monday. A flag-raising ceremony will take place in Memorial Park on Heath Street.
PORTLAND
10:30 a.m. Monday. Parade route is along Congress Street, from Longfellow Square to City Hall. Ceremony will follow on the steps and plaza at City Hall.
SANFORD
11 a.m. Monday. Ceremony indoors at Sanford Memorial Gymnasium at 678 Main St. This will be followed by an honor guard wreath-laying ceremony outdoors.
SOUTH PORTLAND
10:30 a.m. Monday. Parade starts at Southern Maine Community College and runs along Broadway to Mill Creek Park.
WESTBROOK
11 a.m. Monday. Veterans Rest at Woodlawn Cemetery, 380 Stroudwater St. Ceremony includes posting the flag, patriotic poetry, musical selections and a mayoral proclamation.
WINDHAM
11 a.m. Monday. Windham Veterans Center, 35 Veterans Memorial Drive. Ceremony featuring guest speakers and the student winners of this year’s local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10643 essay contest.
