Still licking my wounds, but the sun is shining, and it’s time to move on and hope that our constitutional system of checks and balances will hold up.
I think what I underestimated was how much one’s financial situation can affect one’s vote, and apparently there are plenty of Americans who feel a Trump presidency would be better for our economy and their own job chances than a Harris presidency would. They also view Trump as the guy who can tell our enemies to shape up.
I can understand the need to look out first for our families. I also know that many Americans feel that a tough guy is tougher than a tough gal. And, I think that – sadly – some American males cannot imagine being led by a woman. So, looking back, I can understand this outcome better than I anticipated before the election.
Here is where I worry, though: This time around I fear Trump will only appoint people that he knows will agree with him. The various secretaries (State, Defense, etc.) will not be strong enough to talk him down off the various, dangerous cliffs he will walk himself out onto. Real tough guys know they are tough. Wannabe tough guys need to show they are tough. Trump, I think, is a wannabe. That is what scares me the most. Particularly in this nuclear age we live in.
