Today, Sunday, Nov. 10, 2024, I am reading the Opinion section of the Sunday Telegram. The first letter (“President-elect a global embarrassment“) is from a teenage girl (age 16). She calls anyone out who voted to put Donald J. Trump back into office. She cites our country’s values and points out what values Trump voters are willing to give up. She writes, “For the sake of democracy, we cannot take this lying down.”
Below her letter is another letter, “I’m afraid I know what happens next.” I appreciate this writer’s fears, but the previous letter from the 16-year old is the place where my thoughts are and my heart is. I have a sticker that I acquired at this year’s Common Ground Fair. It reads: “WE OWN OUR FUTURE – WE VOTE! MAINE YOUTH POWER.”
The younger generations will save our country – their country. They will learn and vote, and eventually, America will be right again. Like-minded people of all ages need to work to restore values we are built on.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
For those stories that we do enable discussion, our system may hold up comments pending the approval of a moderator for several reasons, including possible violation of our guidelines. As the Maine Trust’s digital team reviews these comments, we ask for patience.
Comments are managed by our staff during regular business hours Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. Comments held for moderation outside of those hours may take longer to approve.
