Logan Nijhoff scored a backbreaking goal just 17 seconds after the Maine Mariners cut into a two-goal deficit, and the Trois-Rivières Lions secured a 4-1 win in an ECHL game Friday night in Trois-Rivières, Quebec.
Jakov Novak, Xavier Cormier and Anthony Beauchamp also scored for the Lions, with Beauchamp finding an empty net with 12 seconds remaining.
Jimmy Lambert got a power-play goal for Maine at 5:10 of the third period, briefly making it 2-1 before Nijhoff quickly answered.
It’s the fifth time in 11 games that the Mariners have produced one goal or none. The Mariners outshot Trois-Rivières 31-21, but Lions goalie Luke Cavallin made 30 saves.
