Hussein Ali, Portland/South Portland senior: The Class A runner-up at 165 pounds last season in just his second year of wrestling, he’ll lead a 38-wrestler program that expects to make a significant climb in the Class A standings.

Chris Anthony, York senior: Anthony has qualified for the state meet all three seasons, placing second as a freshman at 106 pounds. He’ll compete at 113 for a third consecutive season as one of three seniors on a 23-wrestler squad.

Kylan Berry, Marshwood/Traip sophomore: Berry, a returning Varsity Maine All-State pick, took the 106-pound bracket by storm last season, going 51-0 in Maine (55-3 overall) en route to the Class A and New England Qualifier titles before placing sixth at the New England championships. He’ll wrestle at 113 pounds.

Evan Boulard, Massabesic sophomore: Another returning Varsity Maine All-State choice who shined as a freshman, Boulard was key to the Mustangs’ Class A team title. He won the 126-pound division at both the South regional and state meet during a 51-7 season. He could wrestle at 126 again or bump up to 132.

James Chaplick, Sanford senior: The A South, Class A and New England Qualifier runner-up to Noble’s Kaden Dustin at 138 pounds a year ago, Chaplick will stay at that weight and is one of four captains for a team looking to improve on last season’s 10th-place finish.

Nicholas Chenard, Massabesic senior: Three-time Class A runner-up, Chenard was nipped in last year’s 132-pound final, 11-9, by Elijah Farias of Gardiner. He will likely compete at 132 or 138 and has a good chance of reaching 150 career wins, with a record of 117-31.

Ayden Cofone, Windham/GNG/Westbrook senior: The Windham High student and two-time state champion has a chance to join the exclusive 200-win club, something not achieved in Maine since 2020 (JJ Worster of Oxford Hills). Last season’s Class A North and New England Qualifier champ at 120 pounds, Cofone entered the year with a record of 152-10.

Kaden Dustin, Noble senior: A two-time state champion and the returning Varsity Maine All-State pick at 138 pounds after battling through a shoulder injury to go 39-5 and sweep the regional, state and New England Qualifier titles, he’ll move up to either 144 or 150.

Dash Farrell, Mt. Ararat/Brunswick senior: Farrell, who missed last season because of injury, is looking to add a state title to his resume after placing second as both a freshman and sophomore. The Varsity Maine All-State football player expects to wrestle at 165 pounds.

Delaney Frost, Noble sophomore: The girls’ state champion at 120 pounds, Frost placed second at the inaugural girls’ New England championship, which Noble won. She’ll be competing at 120 or 126 pounds for the Knights’ varsity team this year.

Nevaeh and Sophie Grunhuvd, Massabesic juniors: The sisters, who are not twins, are each two-time top-five finishers at the Montana girls’ high school state tournament. Last season, competing in 24-wrestler brackets, Nevaeh was third at 132 pounds and Sophie was fourth at 126 at the Montana championship.

Evan Kowalsky, Mt. Ararat/Brunswick sophomore: The 113-pound New England Qualifier champ last season after placing third in Class A, he will bump up to either 120 or 126. He’s a key member of a 30-wrestler team.

Addison Leger, Windham/GNG/Westbrook senior: A starter at 113 pounds, Leger is a three-time placer in the Maine girls’ championship meet.

Phoenix Martinez, Oceanside senior: Martinez placed third in Class B and second at the New England Qualifier last season at 120 pounds and has started this season with a pair of runner-up finishes at 126, to Ayden Cofone at the preseason Westlake tourney and Evan Kowalsky at Belfast.

Evan Metivier, Cheverus/Falmouth junior: The Class A runner-up to since-graduated Pedro Lombi of Deering at 215 pounds as a sophomore, the Cheverus student will return to the weight class after posting a 33-7 record.

Zach Nelson, Bonny Eagle senior: Nelson has come close the past two years to claiming a state title, finishing second as a sophomore and third a year ago. He expects to stay at 138 pounds and, along with senior Chase Frost (fourth at 126 last season) will lead a 25-wrestler team looking to improve on last year’s fifth-place finish.

Brady Ouellette, Noble junior: After winning Class A titles at 106 and 120 pounds, the returning Varsity Maine All-State pick will jump to the 150- or 157-pound division. He was 48-3 as a sophomore but was unable to compete at the New England Qualifier because of illness.

Landon Pease, Camden Hills senior: Pease was the New England Qualifier champ in a competitive 126-pound weight class after finishing third at the Class A state meet. He opened this year winning the 150-pound bracket at the Belfast Invitational. His twin brother, Connor (144), is back from injury.

Hannah Perro, Noble junior: Perro won the girls’ 100-pound championship at the inaugural New England girls’ wrestling championships last season, paving the way for Noble to win the team title. Ranked No. 28 in the national USA Wrestling rankings at 100 pounds, she’ll again wrestle at 106 for the Knights’ varsity team. She was fourth in Class A last season.

Eli Potter, Wells senior: Potter was the 170-pound Class B champ as a sophomore but was injured last season. After leading the Warriors to the Class D football championship, he will be a force in the 215-pound division for the defending Class B dual meet and team champions.

Mario Real, Kennebunk senior: After finishing fourth in Class A at 144 pounds last season, Real is looking strong in early season matches competing at 138 and is a key part of a full Rams’ lineup.

Michael Rollins, Camden Hills senior: The Class A champ and New England Qualifier runner-up at 150 pounds last season has moved up three weight classes and won the Belfast tourney this season. He’s a key member of a team that could win A North, and maybe more.

Grisam Shields, Kennebunk sophomore: The A South runner-up to Kylan Berry, he place third in the state meet at 106 pounds. He will compete at either 113 or 120.

Kelsie Strong, Marshwood/Traip junior: A varsity co-ed wrestler last season at 113 pounds, Strong will move to her more natural 106-pound division. She was fourth in the girls’ state 100-pound division a year ago.

Cole Tomuschat, Scarborough/Gorham senior: Tomuschat returns to wrestling after not competing as a junior. He has the potential to be on the Class A South podium in a wide-open 285-pound division. As a sophomore, he was one win away from qualifying for the state meet.
