GIRLS ALPINE

1. Falmouth: The defending Class A champions return almost intact and will be led by Bridget Jacobsen, a junior who was second behind since graduated Hadley Prewitt (Marshwood) in both slalom and giant slalom at the state championships. Ella Morse (sixth in the slalom) and Caitlynn Bateman (14th in the GS and 21st in the slalom) also scored a year ago. Veterans Sadie Kramer and Kate Swallow, Margo Hessown (injured last season) and newcomer Lauren Cushman provide quality depth.

2. Yarmouth: Varsity Maine girls skier of the year Brooke Boone has graduated, but the Clippers return four skiers who scored a year ago, led by junior Logan McLeod, who has top-10 potential in both events. Senior Emaline Hall and sophomores Finley Giguere and Taylor Carr are also experienced state meet scorers.

3. Kennebunk: The Rams were fourth in Class A a year ago and return several experienced skiers, led by senior Emma Orrendorf and promising sophomore Eliza Nass, who were both strong finishers at the 2024 state meet. Hadleigh Daniels and Kate Orrendorf are two other key contributors for a growing team.

2. Yarmouth: The Clippers are rebuilding a bit, but the program is consistently strong. Look for seniors Paige Brewer, Laila Brewer and Maya Faulstich to be consistently strong. Jillian Pires and Eleanor Weyenberg had solid supporting races in the first Western Maine Conference meet.

3. Falmouth: The Navigators were third in Class A behind Mt. Blue and Cheverus and return their top three scorers from the championship races in seniors Zora DeSilva (8th freestyle; 10th classical), Eli Tardiff (10th freestyle) and Maisy Clement.

BOYS ALPINE

1. Falmouth: The defending Class A champions return five skiers who turned in a top-15 finish at last year’s Class A state championships. Ian Christie had the best finish, third in giant slalom; Hayden Davis had two top-10 finishes (fifth in slalom, seventh in GS); and Liam Keefer was sixth in giant slalom. Blake Kingsley (11th in the slalom, 12th in the GS) and Zach Small (15th in the slalom) are also returning placers.

2. Freeport: The Falcons won Class A titles in 2022 and 2023 and are itching to regain the top spot. Ansel Goode is back after finishing third in slalom and fifth in GS. Ben Barrett, Elias Burrell and Alex Gilbert provide a solid core of experienced racers, and freshmen Oliver Gailey and Wyeth Ball have looked good.

3. Cape Elizabeth: Second in Class B last season, Cape has a new coach in Mia Kauffman and graduated its top three racers. Seniors Kingsley Burch and Leo Matzkin and sophomore Jack Marston were scorers last season. Marston has top-10 potential in both races, while Matzkin has had his best results in slalom.

BOYS NORDIC

1. Yarmouth: The Clippers were second to Greely in Class B last season and appear to have the depth to ascend to the top. Alexander “Zander” Gordon, a junior, has been near the top in his first two races. Sophomore Leif Hellstedt and seniors Mateo Coury and Aksel Moon are the next wave on a team that has plenty of depth.

2. Brunswick: The Dragons were third behind Mt. Blue and Portland last season in Class A. Seniors Sam Cashman (7th in both freestyle and classical) and Wyeth Mackey (10th classical, 11th freestyle) lead the team. Sophomore Daire Woodruff and seniors Jonathan Koehler and Brendan Ledwick are likely scorers.

3. Portland: The Bulldogs return their top two in Henry Morrison and Alex Price. Morrison was second in classical and fourth in freestyle at last year’s Class A championships, and Price placed 11th in classical. Portland will need to develop the rest of its scoring group to match last year’s second-place finish.
