The Steering Committee of the Yarmouth Community Food Pantry was saddened to hear the news of the Yarmouth Farmers Market closing. We want to take a moment to reflect on what the farmers market has meant to not only our patrons, but all residents in Yarmouth, and to give credit to Amy Sinclair for her stalwart commitment to bringing farm-fresh fare and local involvement by artisans and musicians to our community. Hats off to Amy, all the farmers, food purveyors, artists and musicians that made the Yarmouth Farmers Market so special.
Amy has spent the last nine years managing and building the Yarmouth Farmers Market. The vendors involved describe her as “the best organizer we’ve ever worked with,” according to an article in The Forecaster. She’s tirelessly worked to obtain donations from local businesses and individuals to support the market and the food subsidy program for our community’s food insecure population. We’ve heard firsthand from the Yarmouth Community Food Pantry’s patrons what the subsidy program has meant to them. By providing fresh produce and healthy foods, Amy has served this population with tenacity and commitment.
The Yarmouth Farmers Market’s location in Railroad Square will soon go under construction for the development of Phase 1 of the Railroad Square Development Project. Despite Amy’s efforts to relocate the market, no suitable location has been found.
The Yarmouth Community Food Pantry applauds Amy Sinclair’s dedication to the Yarmouth Farmers Market and wishes to recognize her for her unwavering commitment to local farmers, artisans, small businesses and the Yarmouth community. Thank you, Amy! And thank you to all those who participated in the farmers market.
