About 2,400 of gallons of diesel fuel was spilled when an Irving Oil truck rolled over on Interstate 295 in Brunswick early Wednesday.

The fuel truck loaded with 2,900 gallons of off-road diesel crashed at about 2:45 a.m. at mile marker 26 the Maine State Police said. The driver, Nicholas Garcia, 28, of Cape Elizabeth, was taken to Maine Medical Center with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The northbound travel lane near the crash scene was closed for much of the day while the Maine Department of Environmental Protection and Clean Harbors cleaned up the diesel that spilled from the truck. Officials reopened the road shortly before 5 p.m., just ahead of the evening rush hour.

Approximately 2,400 gallons of diesel leaked after the crash, police said.

Copp Motors removed the truck shortly before 8 a.m., but police advised drivers to seek alternate routes to avoid delays.

The cause of the crash is being investigated by police.
