Richard Allen “Dick” Lewia
KENNEBUNK – Richard Allen “Dick” Lewia, 82, a lifelong and active community member passed away Saturday, March 8, 2025, following a period of failing health, with his loving family at his side.
He was born April 22, 1942, in Biddeford to Eugene A. and Stella (Plourde) Lewia. Attending Kennebunk Schools, he graduated from Kennebunk High School, class of 1960. While in high school he played football on the varsity team as a sophomore and made the All State Team that year. He went on to attend Ricker College in Houlton.
Though he never considered himself a military veteran, Dick was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves in the 1960s, where he specialized in welding and blacksmithing.
Holding many titles during his lifetime, he owned and operated the Razor’s Edge Barber Shop in Kennebunk in the 1970s. After its sale, he joined the Kennebunk School Department, managing the facilities and grounds. Following the High School renovation in 1982, Dick designed the irrigation system for the expanded athletic fields. He also sold real estate throughout his career and operated the Lewia Agency for a time.
After he retired, Dick spent treasured time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed being at Kennebunk Pond in his boat. He could often be found cheering on his grandchildren in their many games and activities.
He was the brother of the late Frances (Lewia) and her husband, the late Lloyd Robinson, of Kennebunk. He was also the brother of the late Robert Lewia of Kennebunk, and his wife, Patricia, currently of Sanford.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Pierce Lewia of Kennebunk, and his four children: Nick Lewia and his wife, Amy (Boucher) of Cape Porpoise, Tobias Lewia of Kennebunk, Tracey Lewia and her husband, William Weakley Jr., and Danielle (Lewia) and her husband Craig MacDonald, Jr., all of Kennebunk, along with six grandchildren: Gavin, Graham and Greer MacDonald, Gabriella and Haley Lewia, and Brandon Lewia.
