One person was seriously injured and another is facing charges after a car crash on the Maine Turnpike in Falmouth early Sunday morning.

Authorities responded to the area near mile marker 55 southbound on the turnpike at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday and found two damaged vehicles in the median, Maine State Police said in a news release.

One of the drivers, Patrick Blair, 61, of Lewiston, was seriously injured and transported to Maine Medical Center. State police said Blair is in critical, but stable condition.

The other driver, 30-year-old Joshua Uwimana, of Lewiston, fled the scene of the accident on foot. Police dogs later located Uwimana on the shoulder of the turnpike about one mile south of the crash. He was arrested after showing signs of intoxication, state police said.

The southbound lanes of the turnpike were shut for several hours during the investigation, and traffic was diverted at exit 63.
