THE MAINE FOODIES
Portland-based couple Lexi and Erik Dirkmaat launched their Instagram account The Maine Foodies in 2020. Five years later, they’ve attracted more than 89,000 followers.
The Dirkmaats love to discover what they consider to be “hidden gems, inspiring stays and the best bites,” and will also mention when places have gluten-free offerings.

Visiting The Maine Foodies on Instagram is a sumptuously visual feast of food, drinks and places to visit.
A recent post featured a mouthwatering photo of a loaded red snapper hotdog from The Clam Bar, shawarma pita and fries from Nura and ramen from Pai Men Miyake, all in Portland.
Several posts feature video clips of beaches, outdoor dining spots, boat rides and gardens, some in Maine and others in places like Nantucket.
MEET YORK COUNTY
Springvale-based Mike Nicholas launched his Meet York County Instagram page in 2018. It has 5,937 followers.
Nicholas shared that when he started it, Saco and Biddeford were exploding and people were constantly asking him about the new spots he had checked out.
“I figured I might as well start a page so friends can follow. Then it kind of just took off as more of a part-time kind of thing and it’s been a lot of fun to network with local businesses,” said Nicholas.

One post highlights 50-cent wing night at Beachfire in Ogunquit, another shows a waffle and chicken dish from FinestKind in Saco.
Nicholas also documents visits to businesses like the Brew England craft beer store in Biddeford and The Buoy Guy in Ogunquit.
HOSS & MARY’S
The Hoss & Mary’s Facebook page was launched in 2011 and has 13,000 followers.
Hoss & Mary’s is a Saco-based burger and hotdog truck.
On the Facebook page there are mostly posts about what Hoss and Mary, a married couple, are cooking at home and where they’re eating out at.
These two love to eat, cook and support other food trucks and restaurants.
Hoss and Mary do have actual first and last names, but prefer to be known online by their monikers.
A perusal of Facebook paid immediate dividends with photos of a to-die-for looking chicken sandwich from George & Leon’s in Westbrook and their own made-at-home surf and turf dinner with steak, shrimp, potatoes, asparagus and sauteed mushrooms.
You can also keep tabs on where the Hoss & Mary’s truck will be parked with posts on Facebook and especially on the Hoss & Mary’s Instagram page.
