Taco Trio opened Monday in its new/old location in the Knightville neighborhood of South Portland.
Manuel “Manny” Peña Cerrito and his wife, Karen Rasmussen, had run the popular Taco Trio at 119 Ocean St. for about a decade beginning in 2011. In May 2021, they moved the business a few blocks down the street, to 60 Ocean St., in order to expand. But the new space “just never felt like Taco Trio,” Rasmussen told the Press Herald in December when she announced plans to return the restaurant to its original home.
She said she was doing so to fulfill a dream of Cerrito’s, who died in October from cancer.
Rasmussen originally hoped to reopen Taco Trio in January, but the opening was delayed. “WE’RE OPEN! We’ve done some touch up’s,” reads an announcement on the restaurant’s Facebook page. “Same old Taco Trio vibe with a shiny new look and a new bar. Check it out! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!” The website says simply, “We’ve moved back!”
The restaurant, serving its namesake tacos, as well as burritos, quesadillas and enchiladas, will be open 4-9 p.m. Mondays to Wednesdays and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays to Saturdays; it is closed on Sundays.
