First Trump came for the immigrants… and I did not speak out, because I’m not an immigrant. Then Trump came for the federal workers… and I did not speak out, because I’m not a federal worker. Then Trump came for politicians, and lawyers, and judges, and anyone who he felt had wronged him… and I did not speak out, because I had done him no harm. Then Trump came for anyone who was too “woke”… and I did not speak out, because I don’t even know what that means. Then Trump came for me… and there was no one left to speak for me.
Sound familiar? When we fail to speak out against injustice, when we stand idly by when leaders implement harmful policy, when we merely shake our heads or vent on social media while others are victimized, we are complicit in the abuse. And in the end, we will all become victims.
