Keller grew into a champion and as a result, he helped his team to the pinnacle as well.

Keller first made his presence felt in indoor track as a sophomore, as he placed fourth in the two-mile at the Class A state meet where Scarborough finished first. Keller, who has also been part of a championship-winning Red Storm team in cross country (he was sixth at the Class A state meet this past fall, helping Scarborough win the title by a single point), and has made his mark in distance events in outdoor track as well, had a season to remember this winter.

Keller started the season with a victory in the two-mile and that set the tone. He excelled in multiple events, but when the postseason rolled around, his focus was the mile and he’d have no peer.

At Southwesterns, Keller won the mile with a time of 4 minutes, 22.78 seconds. At states, Keller took the top spot in the mile at 4:28.0 and he also placed fourth in the two-mile (9:57.67), helping propel the Red Storm to the crown by a mere four points over runner-up Lewiston.

Keller then placed ninth in the mile at the New England championship meet (4:28.37).

“This season was the culmination of four years of dedication and growth, as (Ethan) put everything together in the biggest races,” said Scarborough track coach Derek Veilleux.

Ethan Keller, Scarborough’s Winter Athlete of the Year, produced his best races when it mattered most and as a result, he and his teammates left the opposition in their wake.

Coach Derek Veilleux’s comment: “Ethan is one of the hardest-working athletes on the team. Not only does he push himself and his teammates, but he also takes the extra steps after practice to stay healthy. Ethan’s leadership and race efforts were instrumental in our team’s victory at the Class A state championship.”

Harmon has emerged as one of the elite pole vaulters/jumpers in the state and she’s made her presence felt beyond Maine’s borders as well.

As a sophomore, Harmon placed third in the pole vault (9 feet) and fifth in the high jump (5 feet). After winning the pole vault outdoors back in June, this winter, she took it up another level indoors.

Harmon, who also plays volleyball at Scarborough, opened the season with wins in the high jump and pole vault and was just getting started. By the time the postseason rolled around, expectations were high and Harmon met them by winning the senior high jump (5-4) and pole vault (10-7), while also coming in fifth in the 55 senior hurdles at Southwesterns, then by capturing the pole vault (10-0) and the high jump (5-6) at states while also placing fourth in the senior 55 hurdles, helping the Red Storm finish second as a team.

After placing 13th in the high jump (5-3) and coming in 18th in the 55 hurdles at New Englands, Harmon closed her best season to date by coming in sixth in the high jump (5-7.25) at the New Balance Nationals.

Regardless of the season or the event, Isabella Harmon, Scarborough’s Winter Athlete of the Year, consistently soars above the field. She still has one more year to turn heads at the high school level.

Coach Denise Curry’s comment: “Izzy is a success because of all the effort she puts into every practice and each event she competes in.”
