An Eddington man who has been involved in several police standoffs was arrested and charged in federal court this week for violent social media posts he made against “all of mankind,” as well as police, government leaders and Jewish people.
Thadius C. Wind, 50, was arrested Monday and has been charged with one count of interstate threatening communications, a Class D crime that could entail up to five years in prison. Wind made his first appearance at the U.S. District Courthouse in Bangor on Tuesday.
An attorney appointed to represent Wind during his first appearance declined to discuss the charges against Wind Tuesday.
Court records describe numerous posts Wind made on Facebook and X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter. All of the posts were public, a detective wrote, although police learned of them through an alert from Facebook’s parent company Meta.
Some posts were made against specific people or groups, including Jewish people, government officials, both former Vice President Kamala Harris and current President Donald Trump, unnamed judges and police. Others were more broad, including, “I cannot wait to kill all of mankind.”
Wind also posted pictures of himself “showing a large, sword-style weapon.” Police say Wind used a sword during one standoff with police in 2021 and threatened to kill law enforcement officers.
FBI Special Agent Sean Murphy, who wrote an affidavit for Wind’s arrest, said he was also aware that Wind has a reported history of mental illness.
