Maine State Police are investigating a death and a shooting that occurred in South Berwick.

It was not immediately clear Tuesday whether the shooting and death are connected. Police did not release details about the individual, their cause of death or the circumstances surrounding it.

The state police major crimes unit responded to 48 Brattle St. around 8:45 p.m. Saturday to assist the South Berwick Police Department with a “shooting investigation,” spokesperson Aaron Turcotte said in a written statement.

Turcotte declined to share more details, citing the ongoing investigation during a phone call Tuesday afternoon.

There is no danger to the public, he said in the written statement.

The department did not release any details about potential victims or indicate whether a suspect has been identified.

The South Berwick Police Department did not return a phone call requesting additional details Tuesday night.
