Robert Cronin scored twice in Maine’s three-goal first period, and Brooklyn Kalmikov and Sebastian Vidmar each added a power-play goal to lead the Mariners to a 4-3 win over the Trois-Rivières Lions in an ECHL game Saturday night at Cross Insurance Arena.
Despite the victory, Maine was eliminated from playoff contention when Worcester defeated Adirondack. Worcester and Reading are battling for fourth place in the North Division.
Cronin, signed from the University of New Hampshire in mid-March, opened the scoring just 2:27 into the game, then made it 3-1 at 10:08. He has four goals in his first nine professional games.
Vidmar’s goal at 4:55 of the third period turned out to be the winner, giving the Mariners a 4-2 lead. Vidmar also had two assists — his second straight three-point game.
Maine goalie Brad Arvanitis stopped 20 shots.
