It is not too early to begin thinking about elections we will be asked to take part in on Nov. 3, 2026. We stand at a crossroads unlike any we have faced before. We are governed by a president who believes he has limitless power. He and his Nazi-saluting “co-president” continue dismantling the Constitution with the blessing of the Republican Party. Their cruelty is opposed by a majority of Americans, including many who voted for him.

In 2026, Sen. Susan Collins will ask us to vote for her again. Her silence in the face of Trump’s anti-American actions is extremely troubling. Her tired expressions of “concern” result ultimately in agreement with the injustice enacted by the administration. Does her oath to uphold and defend the Constitution mean nothing to her? Does she want to dismantle the Department of Education and other essential government agencies? Does she not care that cutting off humanitarian aid for our African neighbors will result in death and disease? Does she no longer believe in the freedom of speech as legal residents are rounded up for the audacity to speak their minds? Her silence is not golden. In the face of immoral actions, silence equals affirmation.

Collins asks us to send her to the Senate for six more years yet never holds town halls. Why? We are waiting for Collins. It is time to stop avoiding her responsibility for face-to-face contact.
