MANY HANDS

The Shaker Village at Sabbathday Lake in New Gloucester is the last active Shaker community on the planet. Its history dates back to the 1780s.

On May 10, you can lend a hand by participating in a spring volunteer work day from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

You’ll spend the day helping in the households, herb department, barn, farm and gardens.

All levels of ability are welcome to participate, and jobs will range from indoor/seated nonphysical work to outdoor full-on active tasks. Tools will be provided, and you’re encouraged to bring work gloves.

The schedule includes a noontime lunch break with cold cut sandwiches. Side dishes or desserts to share are welcome.

The work day is free and open to all.
