Pineland Farms, a New Gloucester working farm, recreational center and business park, announced Thursday that it will close its Outdoor & Fitness Center on June 1.
“We recognize that this closure will affect some of our dedicated staff, and we are deeply grateful for their service and contributions over the years,” Pineland Farms said in a news release. “Pineland is committed to being flexible and supportive as staff members explore new employment opportunities.”
The Outdoor & Fitness Center building “has reached the end of its useful life,” according to the release, and “the property owner will be exploring future possibilities for the site, including potential partnerships to reimagine or rebuild the facility.”
Events scheduled after June 1 will be canceled, and alternative sites will be found for regularly scheduled programming that uses the facility, such as the Veterans Adaptive Sports & Training program.
Despite the closure, Pineland Farms added in the news release that it is still looking to expand its offerings, which also include farm programs, educational events, recreational sports, and space for local businesses and nonprofits, according to its website.
In addition to three 18-hole disc golf courses, a fourth, family-friendly 9-hole course is planned “in the near future,” according to the release.
Trails will continue to be open and maintained year-round for hiking, biking, skiing, snowshoeing and more, the release said.
