On behalf of Windham Neighbors Helping Neighbors, I want to thank everyone who has supported our efforts over the past five years. 100 percent of the money donated to Windham Neighbors is used to purchase heating fuel for those who would otherwise have no way to heat their homes during the cold months of winter. We are all Windham volunteers who help local families with heating emergencies.
When we first started in 2008 we were able to help 17 families. Last winter we were able to help 91 families.
At our recent dinner/auction annual fundraiser, several area businesses and individuals made generous contributions to help our efforts and as a result we will be able to once again buy heating fuel for those Windham citizens who are in dire need of assistance.
Windham Neighbors presents an award every year at our annual fundraiser to a person who has made extraordinary efforts to help local people in need. This year’s award went to Dick Dyke, owner of Windham Weaponry in North Windham. Not only has Dick supported Windham Neighbors Helping Neighbors he has also been a role model for his employees.
In fact, Windham Weaponry’s employees have regular deductions taken from their paychecks for the specific purpose of helping local charities like Windham Neighbors and providing weekend meals for needy children who do not have sufficient nutrition available to them on non-school days.
Thank you to all who have been so generous, and congratulations to Dick Dyke and his employees for their extra special help.
