Sean Murray, a Maine Maritime Academy student from Scarborough, was recently selected to serve as the Delta Company cadet electrical engineer of the college’s training ship, State of Maine, for the 2006 summer training course.

As a ranking midshipman engineering officer, he is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, organization, and inventory of the electrician’s workshop, as well as the proper operation of all the ship’s electrical systems. Murray, a member of the class of 2007, is majoring in Marine Systems Engineering.

The 500-foot, 16,000-ton State of Maine takes students on annual training cruises to foreign and domestic ports of call. Students pursuing an officer’s license from the U.S. Coast Guard as a third mate or third assistant engineer are required to train at sea from the U.S. Coast Guard as a third mate or third assistant engineer are required to train at sea for at least 60 days in each of their first three years at the college.
