CUMBERLAND — The Greely football team grinded out a 7-0 win over visiting Biddeford in the Class B South quarterfinals on Friday night.

After a scoreless first quarter, Greely would get a score when quarterback Nick Male connected with Nolan Anderson with 3:16 remaining in the second half. That would be all the Rangers needed, as they shut out the Tigers the rest of the way to advance to the semis.

“They made quite a few more plays than us, I don’t even have a handle on how many plays they had on their offensive series,” said Biddeford coach Brain Curit. “Our defensive effort was unbelievable but we just did not do much on offense.”

The Tigers did have chances down the stretch, and would advance the ball to the within the Greely 30-yard line twice in the final five minutes. The Rangers would make the key stops on fourth down to shut down the Biddeford attack.

“We had no consistency whatsoever, we didn’t play very well up front.  We didn’t play well at the line of scrimmage, that’s where the game was decided,” said Curit of the Greely stops.

The Tigers finish the year at 5-4, and say bye to a handful of seniors on the team. Curit was proud of the team’s performance throughout the year, and will miss the departing veterans.

“We had a good year, I was disappointed that we couldn’t go any further, these seniors deserved to go further,” said Curit. “Take your hat off to Greely, they always seem to get that first playoff win. They always seem to be the underdog but come back and win.”
