MILTON, Mass. — Rachel Schwaner, Gina Newsome, Nikki Smith and Hannah Warren combined for 13 goals as the University of New England rolled to an 18-6 CCC women’s lacrosse victory over Curry College on Tuesday afternoon at Walter Katz Field.
Winning for the fourth time in five outings, the Nor’easters (4-2 CCC) level off at 7-7 overall. It is just the second game Big Blue has taken on the road against the Colonels (5-9, 1-5 CCC) in nine tries.
Schwaner paced UNE with four goals and an assist, while Newsome and Warren evenly split six goals and two helpers. Kimberly Gosselin added a goal and two assists.
Katie Cawley scored both of her tallies as the visitors got out to a 6-1 lead entering the latter stages of the first half. After the Colonels cut it to 7-4, UNE struck four times in 2:42 late to gain a seven-goal spread at the break. Courtney Kendall had eight saves in her 30 minutes of work to keep the hosts in check.
For Curry, Malorie Knowlton had two goals. Christina Wallis posted 13 saves for the home side, which was out-shot by a 40-22 margin.
