GORHAM — The Thornton Academy indoor track and field squads had strong showings on Saturday as both the boys and girls captured second-place finishes at the SMAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Southern Maine.
Tori Daigle led Thornton with three victories on the day, including a couple of record-setting performances. The standout set records in the long jump and triple jump. In the long, Daigle won the event with a leap of 18 feet, 8 1/2 inches and then went 36-4 1/2 to win the triple. The Trojan star also won the senior 55 hurdles in 8.81 seconds.
Also picking up wins for Thornton was Keegan Fowler, who captured gold in the junior 55 meters and the junior 400.
Massabesic, which finished 10th in the girls standings, got wins from Karisa Lambertson in the 600-yard run and Mariah Biener in the high jump.
Biddeford had two first-place finishers as Biddeford’s Matt Brady won the shot put with a record-setting toss of 48-10 1/2 and Justin Gagnon won the triple jump with a hop, skip and a jump of 42-11 1/2.
Scarborough would win both the boys and girls championships.
