OAKLAND — Secondseeded Messalonskee High School scored four unanswered goals in the first half en route to a 4-1 win over Mt. Ararat in an Eastern Maine Class A field hockey quarterfinal matchup on Wednesday.
The visiting Eagles dipped to 7-8 and lose seniors Paige Perry, Danielle Palmer, Carly Raymond, Kristen Pierce, Caitlin LaFountain, Samantha Hamilton, Kelly Richard, Renee Rossignol and Nellie Hetherington.
In the first half, Emily Hogan scored at 6:49, Kyle Knight converted a penalty stroke with 15:17 left, Nathalie St. Pierre made it 3- 0 with 11:11 remaining and Mikayla Turner added a second penalty stroke with 5:01 left.
Eva Jerome scored for Mt. Ararat with 14:42 remaining in the game off a Caitlin LaFountain feed.
Messalonskee led in shots (24-1) and penalty corners (11-2).
Hetherington stopped 16 shots for Mt. Ararat, while Abby Roberts made 10 saves for Messalonskee, which improved to 13-2.
