OLD ORCHARD BEACH (AP) — Maine veterans are gathering to honor prisoners of war and servicemen missing in action and to raise money for veterans in need.
The POW/MIA Recognition Weekend kicks off in Old Orchard Beach Baseball Park today. The annual event is hosted by the Maine Heroes Fund organization and raises money for programs like the Wounded Heroes of Maine Fund.
The weekend’s events will feature a Vietnam combat veteran Huey helicopter and a motorcycle ride from York to Old Orchard Beach.
Republican Gov. Paul Le- Page and Democratic Congressman Mike Michaud are both scheduled to speak during the remembrance ceremony on Saturday.
