
Born in Freeport, Maine, on April 3, 1936, he was the son of the late Cedric G. and Ruth (Giles) Libby Sr. He graduated from Brockton High School with the class of 1954. He then attended Business University of Pittsburgh and received his degree in May 1985.
He was a veteran and served in the United States Navy.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Libby owned and operated M & S Auto Supply, located in Freeport and Yarmouth, Maine. He was president of several professional associations associated with his business. In his mid sixties, he started a very successful second career as a real estate agent, in Florida and New Hampshire.
He was a member of the Freeport town planning board. Mr. Libby established Freeport’s Athletic Boosters Club (1975), and was longtime president. He was a high school basketball official and high school baseball umpire, and a mites hockey coach. He gave much of his time to the Little League of St. Cloud, Fla.
Mr. Libby was an avid swimmer, landscaper, firewood splitter and lawnmower extraordinaire. He was a master at cribbage, pinochle, poker, Yahtzee, Uno, dominoes, and various board games.
Members of his family include his wife, Pamela (Hubbard) Libby, of Northwood; his children, Ronald D. Libby of Spotsylvania, Va., Michael Safford of Webster, Maine, and Stephanie Long, of Lee, N.H.; four granddaughters; two grandsons; two great-granddaughters; two brothers, Kenneth Libby of Stowe, Vt., and Keith Libby of Hudson, Fla.; a sister, Lorraine Thompson of Sebring, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Mr. Libby was predeceased by his oldest son, Rodney D. Libby, and by his two brothers, Dwight and Bruce Libby.
There are no calling hours. A private graveside service followed by military honors will be held at the N.H. State Veterans Cemetery, 110 D.W. Highway, in Boscawen.
