“Lewiston, Hampden, Brunswick and Bangor should all be very competitive. The league schedule has changed this year, so we will be playing some teams in the regular season that we haven’t played in a while.

“Our midfield should be our strength as well as speed. Having a deeper bench also helps!
“We have a young team this year with 19 incoming freshmen. We’ll also need to have the upperclassmen step up into newer roles to lead the team. We lost our ‘D’ last year, so filling those positions will be hard. But we do have some newcomers willing to take on that task.”
“We think there is more parity this season and it’s up for grabs for anyone! Should be exciting to watch.”

Coach’s comments — “We lost some key players who had a lot of varsity experience, but this group of returning players has played together since middle school so they work really well together. They want to build on the success we had last season, but know they are going to have to really work hard because of the high level of competition in our league. We have players who can score, but we will need to have more consistency defensively and continue to improve each time out. The big key will be how well the younger players adjust to the varsity level. They support each other on and off the field and are looking forward to the start of the season.
“Our goal isn’t any different than any other team. We want to make the playoffs. Offensively, we want as many people as possible scoring goals and defensively limiting the corners taken against us.
“Skowhegan, Messalonskee and Lawrence are the topthree teams to beat. The rest of the teams are pretty competitive with each other and will battle all season long. It wouldn’t surprise me to see a couple upsets this year to the top teams.”
Season opener — Sept. 4 (at Cony).
Key dates — Sept. 14 (H, Skowhegan), Sept. 19 (at Brunswick), Oct. 12 (H, Brunswick).

Coach’s comments — “Boys will be competitive in the league, and as the season develops will do well in the regional and state meet. For the girls a building year … a big loss with no Olivia Swan and just a few freshman girls coming up from the middle school. Missing a few girls who ran last year, one going to her former sport and the other just choosing to not run. Great group of girls, just need to be patient in their growth.
“We want to keep everyone healthy, and progress to top performances at the end of the season. This will be a coaching challenge.”
Season opener — Aug. 30 (Laliberte Invitational).
Key dates — Oct. 19 (KVAC Championships), Oct. 26 (Eastern Class A Regional at Belfast); Nov. 2 (State Championships at Twin Brook in Cumberland).

Jeremy Williams and Nick Dow both improved during last season and should continue to this year. The key to the season will be how the new players come along over the course of the season. Both Cam Cox and Steven Schuman have looked good early.
“I hope we can have a 6-6 record during the regular season and qualify for the states as a team. In our division, I think Oceanside will be strong and probably Camden Hills.”
Season opener — Aug. 29 (at Lincoln Academy).
Key dates — Sept. 5 (at Brunswick), Sept. 16 (at Morse), Oct. 8 (KVAC Qualifier).
