FREEPORT — Before a large crowd in support of both teams in a soup of fog, rain and mud, the Yarmouth High School football team scored 14 unanswered points in the second half to win 14-8 over the Freeport Falcons on Saturday.

The go-ahead touchdown was scored with only six seconds remaining when Rhys Nason hauled in a 1-yard TD catch and Matt Woodbury ran in the 2-point conversion for the win.

“We were leading the whole game,” said Freeport coach Rob Grover, whose charges were knocked out of the Western Maine Class C playoffs — by the 2-6 Clippers.

Ben MacMillan scored on a 3-yard run in the first quarter and Dan Burke added the 2- point conversion as the 4-4 Falcons went ahead 8-0.

In the fourth quarter, Nate Shields-Aubles scored on a 5- yard pass, but the Falcons stopped the conversion to make it 8-6.

“We then got three first downs, but we needed one more,” said Grover. “We just can’t seem to beat Yarmouth … they have our number right now.”

The Clippers took possession the Y-35 and marched to the F-1 when quarterback Brady Neujahr connected with Nason on the go-ahead TD.

Burke had an interception, led the team in tackles, and piled up 110 rushing yards as well.

HYDE SCHOOL 22

DEXTER 40

Hyde School traveled south to Brookline, Mass., to take on 2-2 Dexter School on Saturday.

Hyde took the opening drive 46 yards and failed to punch it in on a fourth-andgoal from the D-5.

Two plays later Aaron Leffert scooped up a Dexter fumble and rumbled 2 yards for the score as Hyde went up, 6- 0.

Two minutes later Dexter quarterback Luke Cunceo (nine completions for 257 yards, 5 TDs) scrambled 37 yards for a TD tying the game at 6-6 with 2:10 to go in the first.

Twenty three seconds into the second quarter, Cunceo hit CJ Okafor on a 69-yard pass. This duo wound up connecting for three TDs and 191 yards.

Cunceo also hit Justin Smith three times for 38 yards and 2 TDs.

Senior Troy Jones (22 carries for 89 yards with 4 catches for 11 yards) posted two running scores for the 3-2 Phoenix.

The Phoenix travel next Saturday to New Hampshire to take on undefeated New Hampton.

SKOWHEGAN 38

MT. ARARAT 0

In Pine Tree Conference Class A action Friday night, visiting Skowhegan blanked the host Eagles as Tyler Savage scored four touchdowns, two on passes from Adam Clukey to lead the 4-4 Indians.

Mt. Ararat fell to 0-8 and is scheduled to visit rival Brunswick on Friday night.

Savage scored on a 70-yard pass from Clukey late in the second quarter to put Skowhegan up 25-0 at the break.

In the Mt. Ararat effort, quarterback Jake Liedman rushed 10 times for 31 yards and was 2-of-3 passing for 18 net yards.

Joey Burr added 32 yards on 14 carries and Brandon Wyatt caught one pass for 20 yards.

Defensively, Jordan Castonguay led with seven tackles and a sack, while Liedman had seven tackles and a fumble recovery, Ryan Moody four tackles, and Mike Tran and Bru Abreu each a fumble recovery.Brandon Jusseaume punted six times for a 29.33 average.
