ROCKLAND, Maine (AP) — A music event at the Maine Lobster Festival will be missing one of its headliners.
Texas blues legend Johnny Winter, who died at 70 last week in Switzerland, was supposed to perform at the “Rock ‘n’ Blues” event alongside brother Edgar Winter at the Rocklandbased festival on Aug. 2.
Festival President Chuck Kruger tells WNSX-FM that the artists will turn the show into a tribute to Johnny Winter. Other acts include Vanilla Fudge, Savoy Brown’s Kim Simmonds and Peter Rivera.
Rolling Stone magazine named Winter one of the top 100 guitarists of all time.
Winter followed in the footsteps of Chicago blues masters like Muddy Waters. He idolized Waters, and got a chance to produce some of the blues legend’s more popular albums.
