She leaves behind her beloved parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Katie and Tracy Thomas; three wonderful daughters, Erica Schultz, Lauren Hager, and Megan Connelly; and four beautiful grandchildren; Liam Connelly, Bella Veal, Madalyn Veal, and Ayden Veal.
Joanie was predeceased by her nephew Justin Thomas.
Joanie attended Harpswell Island School and Mt. Ararat High School and will be remembered fondly by her friends and classmates for her laughter and friendship. Joanie loved making beautiful intricate quilts and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed.

A memorial service was held June 30, 2017 in Charleston, South Carolina and interment will be at Cranberry Horn Cemetery, Harpswell.
